An English getaway in the sun? Let’s go to MALTA!
Malta was chosen first for its English side. English is the official language, then second is Maltese. Everybody speaks English. There are also several language schools on the island.
The program therefore, English morning immersion for Dayi and Yas. Relaxation for Sam and Raf.
Yeeessssss !!! Real vacations !!
From PARIS, children were enrolled in a daycare in BUGGIBA, for 30 euros per day per child. Here, for once everything was booked before departure. Beautiful organization, congratulations Sam!
Once there, we realized that Dayi was too old, and Yas was the limit. There were only babies… I enrolled my 7 and 4 years in an English nursery but certainly not suitable for my kids ;-))! Well we revert to learning English for kids IRYS. Nevertheless, centers for children from 4 years they seem to exist in MALTA! We saw several on site. If you are interested, I can give you the contacts.
So we changed our program from farniente for parents to 100% kids vacations !
BPYK MALTA TIP # 1: BUGGIBA
BUGGIBA is a very lively city. It is the city where there are cheap hotels and rentals. We had a large 2 bedrooms apartment for 60 euros a night less than 10 minutes to beaches. Top right ?! Except one thing… There was no AC… But 5 fans! Raf was not happy with my choice of lodging… “You did not read the description of the apartment there was no AC” wonder -t he ??
“I do not know … I think I just held the nearby beach”.
Personally, I can take the heat, we had to just stay all day at the water’s edge! It was still 30-35 degrees every day…
Anyway we were there for the kids, and the kids, they support the heat very well! In addition, 5 minutes walk there was THE PLACE FOR THEM! A nice water park with water games! And for free !! Can you imagine that ? Very easy access, there is never a big line to get inside.
The staff was very friendly with the kids, watching that the parents remain seated on the side and does not take advantage of the water games exclusively for kids … Okay I admit, we often violated that rule. Sitting in 35 degrees was just impossible. So more than once, we needed like that suddenly go replace the swimsuit children… Or to offer them water to drink, stack when they are under the waterjet. Aaaah … It’s good !!
At BUGGIBA, there is the Malta Aquarium. A big disappointment… Not very big, in 30 minutes we went around. However, the staff explanations including sharks life have passionate Dayi.
The beaches of BUGGIBA are not very nice. There is no sand almost everywhere. Just rocks. The coves are nevertheless very well appointed (as everywhere in Malta) with marked paths to get close to the sea and steps down into the water (as in swimming pools). Dayi loved diving into the sea, but for Yas it was complicated … So for families who are looking for places to make sand castles you have to look elsewhere. Like MELLIEHA…
BPYK MALTA TIP # 2: MELLIEHA
One of the few sandy beaches. Lovely beach with space. We rent chairs if required (5 euros deckchair + parasol) and we spent a nice day at the beach. The water is not deep, the kids had fun. We went there 2 times during our stay.
Opposite, we can see the little Popeye Village. We chose to not go there, there were too many people in the month of August and crowded places are not really our thing…
BPYK MALTA TIP # 3: QAWRA
Very pretty nearby town of BUGGIBA. The first time we went by taxi and the second time on foot. 40 minutes of walking on the coast.
We spotted a place with water games, as a total wipeout dixit Dayi. For 10 euros a day the kids enjoyed it. It is a small family business, nice people.
We have the choice to wear the rescue vest or not. Dayi and Yas had no choice… They wore 2 !! Yes yes… Call me freaky mom.
There is a nice restaurant in the creek. We tested it, the pizza is a treat! And seafood dishes excellent!
We really loved this place. To access it can ask the owner to pick you up or walk when it’s really a nice walk (note I talk about the journey BUGGIBA-QAWA… If you are on SLIEMA, it’s too far!).
BPYK MALTA TIP # 4: SLIEMA
This city is beautiful! I so regretted not taking an accommodation here, but it was 3 times the price of Buggiba. By doing less shopping during 1 year maybe I could… Or not… We must make difficult choices in life ! 😉
Just stroll along the seafront and choice of beach! There are plenty to choose from! Always the same note, no sandy beach. Only coves. But they are so easy access and so beautiful we want to dive everywhere!
You can also go into what they call Lidos. These are establishments (hotels and other) that provide access to their pool.
We went to a Lido for 10 euros per person (adults only) where there are children’s pool, a huge pool for the biggest and of course access to the sea. Great place, we strongly advise!
Also many parks for children with swings, slide, etc.
BPYK MALTA TIP # 5: VALLETTA
So there, no sea… Just got to VALETTA for walking, getting lost in the narrow streets full of stories and taking pictures…
